Lindley Park was developed in 1917 to act as a residential neighborhood that centered around a public park. By focusing such a great deal on the park being at the heart of the community the Lindley Park neighborhood is known for its friendly and welcoming aura. The canopy-lined streets and careful consideration over every decision made to the neighborhood on appearance, the area has become increasingly popular due to its safe and tranquil feel.
Food Fun and Music at "The Corner"
Lindley Park Filling Station is one of the most popular restaurants in town and can be found at the intersection of Elam and Walker Avenue. Having filled the spot of a former filling station, this delicious eatery has been going from strength to strength over recent years and brings in customers from all over town.
This intersection is a popular part of town, locally known as ‘The Corner’. Only the best places get their own nicknames and there are plenty of amazing restaurants in the area that make this intersection one to remember. Sticks and Stones is another eatery found on this intersection and specializes in clay over pizzas, fresh and delicious. By making sure all their products are organic and as pure as possible, they have uncovered a niche most people didn’t even know they fit into. Getting hold of fresh and local produce in Lindley Park is remarkably easy as there is a farmers market that also runs twice a week and offers up a great selection of goodies from the surrounding areas.
But Lindley Park isn’t just about eating! A great community feel is most definitely built on a full stomach but bringing the people together to work as one is also of great importance. One of the biggest ways the residents of Lindley Park do this is the ‘Lindley Park Luminaries’ which happens on an annual basis. With West Market Street Park being lines with candles and lanterns for one night only, there are masses of volunteers that pile of to help with both the setting up and cleaning of this infamous spectacle.
The buildings in Lindley Park are highly varied in style and a wide mix of architectural styles can be seen on walks around the neighborhood. By focusing more stringently on the overall feel of the neighborhood, Lindley Park has achieved most of what it has set out to do. By ensuring integration is at an all time high and bringing together the community, this is one of the nicest and friendliest neighborhoods in Greensboro. Not only do the residents look out for one another but there is the great sense of pride in the wide, pedestrian friendly streets, green spaces and keeping at one with nature. By focusing more on how the area feels than ensuring all the houses look the same, the neighborhood has really put itself on the map.
